For this sketchbook assignment, the 6th grade students practiced drawing architecture by following along with a tutorial demonstrating how to draw the St. Louis Arch.

These artists used great attention to detail right down to creating reflected light on the arch. Would you look at the brilliant colors and gradual gradients of the sky?!! Wow! Congratulations, artists!!!

SPOTLIGHT - Sketch #11: 5th Grade

This sketchbook assignment is influenced by Pop art. Pop Art is a style of art based on simple, bold images of everyday items, such as soup cans, painted in bright colors. Pop artists created pictures of consumer product labels and packaging, photos of celebrities, comic strips and animals.

5th graders were to divide their sketchbook paper into 4 sections. In each section they drew a donut. Students drew a total of 4 donuts using the style of Pop Artist, Andy Warhol - full of bright, bold colors and fun patterns. Mix them together and we got sketches of the most delicious looking donuts!

Congratulations, Artists!

SPOTLIGHT - Sketch #11: 8th Grade

The theme for this sketchbook assignment was Pop Art. Pop Art is a movement that started in the 1950s that focused on the transition of simple, everyday objects as the subject fine art. Pop Art was celebrated as “art for everyone.” Andy Warhol is credited for starting the Pop Art Movement. His artwork is one that uses food/candy wrappers as its subject.

For this sketchbook assignment, the 8th grade students were to sketch a close up of there favorite candy wrapper/packaging. We got some SWEET results!

Congratulations, artists!
