For this sketchbook assignment, the 7th graders were introduced the art principle: Emphasis. EMPHASIS is used to attract a viewer's attention to the focal point, or main subject, of an artwork. Students were expected to fill the background with simple black and white patterns (or zentangles) to make the colored object of their choice stand out. In addition to emphasis, this sketch assignment had students practicing contrast, pattern and line! Nice job, artists!

SPOTLIGHT - Sketch #9: 7th Grade
For this sketchbook assignment, the 7th graders were introduced the surrealism. Surrealism is a style in art and literature in which ideas, images, and objects are combined in a strange way, like in a dream. Students created an eye and within that eye, they drew a scene of something that interests them such as a hobby or sport. Look at these eyes!! đź‘€

SPOTLIGHT - Sketch #15: 7th & 8th Grade
For this sketchbook assignment, the 7th and 8th grade worked with created art using words.
7th grade focused on typography (the style and appearance of printed words). These students created a contour drawing of an object, then filled the object with a word or words related to that object.
8th grade focused on creating a calligram (a poem, phrase, or word in which the typeface, calligraphy or handwriting is arranged in a way that creates an image. The image created by the words expresses visually what the word says.) These students draw a simple contour drawing of an object, then students filled the object with song lyrics or words from a poem.
